IMB missionary Nita Kilkenny reaches remote mountain communities in Southeast Asia by meeting human needs—installing toilets, drilling wells, and distributing water filters.
“These communities are extremely poor,” Kilkenny says. “They lack clean water and sanitation.” Working with local believers, her team uses these projects to open doors for the gospel.
After receiving a water filter, one woman attended a Bible study and received a New Testament in her language. She soon gave her life to Christ—but her husband, angered by her faith, forbade her from returning. To prove her loyalty, she began to persecute the Christians herself.
But her longing for God’s Word drew her back. She eventually snuck out to attend Bible study again. Believers encouraged her to pray and talk with her husband. He relented—and even opened their home for the group to meet. Though not a believer yet, his heart is softening.
Through the Cooperative Program, Southern Baptists support ministries that meet needs and make disciples.
Pray for continued openness in these mountain communities and for entire families to come to Christ.
