In some Indigenous Brazilian tribes, families face a heartbreaking choice: commit infanticide or be rejected by their community. Babies born with disabilities, illnesses, or as twins are sometimes seen as burdens—and discarded.
IMB missionaries Nick and Amber Sroka are shining the light of Christ into this darkness. Partnering with ATINI, a ministry whose name means “voice,” they help protect vulnerable children by providing medical care, education, and gospel hope.
At a recent event with a Missouri Baptist church, the Srokas met children like Jessica, who was born with muscular dystrophy. Her parents, Edgar and Elisa, left their tribe to save her life—and later found new life in Christ. Now living at the ATINI center, their family is a powerful testimony of God’s love.
The Srokas also network with other missionaries to find and support families facing similar crises.
Through the Cooperative Program, Southern Baptists help rescue and restore families through the power of the gospel.
