Matthew Hembree serves with Send Relief Puerto Rico, training and equipping the 2,500–3,000 short-term volunteers who come each year to serve local communities. His role is to guide teams missionally and coach them through meaningful ministry opportunities across the island.
Many Puerto Ricans have endured deep hardship—financial crises, political instability, earthquakes, and hurricanes. Matthew notes that these struggles have left many searching for lasting hope.
“Our world longs for stability,” he says. “But for families in poverty or disaster recovery, lasting hope feels foreign. Yet the hope of Christ has endured for thousands of years—and it’s still sufficient today.”
Matthew reminds volunteers that this unshakable hope is needed just as much back home as it is in Puerto Rico.
Through the Cooperative Program, our church helps ministries like Send Relief Puerto Rico extend Christ’s love to those in crisis.
Pray volunteers in Puerto Rico will recognize the call to make disciples in their local communities.
