In the midst of war and displacement, Ukrainian refugee women are finding comfort through trauma-focused discipleship groups led by IMB missionary Leanne Stack.
Through oral storytelling, Stack shares biblical accounts of suffering—stories of Daniel in exile, Elijah on the run, and Jesus calming the storm. The women act out and discuss these narratives, connecting deeply with the emotions of loss, fear, and distress they know all too well.
“The Bible doesn’t use the word trauma,” Stack says, “but it speaks so much to trauma. Suffering is all over the Bible.”
Stack gives the women space to lament rather than rushing them to healing. In doing so, they begin to see Jesus’ heart for them—even in the depths of pain.
These groups are providing more than comfort; they’re offering hope through Christ in a time of crisis.
Through the Cooperative Program, Southern Baptists help share the hope of Christ with refugees navigating trauma.
Pray for healing and strength for these women and for more to find hope through God’s Word.
