For Josh and Madison Oakes, being missionaries doesn’t feel like a sacrifice; they are simply following God’s call to bring the gospel to the nations.
A mosque stands on nearly every corner, a reminder that many in the community do not yet know Jesus. Shopping is done at small neighborhood stores, with different shops for vegetables, meat, and spices. Trucks frequently drive through the streets, selling propane tanks, produce, and fabric.
One of the family’s favorite activities is picnicking, a popular pastime in the region. Fields fill with families spending hours together, eating, and enjoying each other’s company. These outings give Josh and Madison opportunities to build relationships with neighbors and let their children play with others.
Though daily life differs from the U.S., Central Asia has become home for the Oakes family, and they embrace it fully.
When we give through the Cooperative Program, our church supports Josh and Madison Oakes through the work of the International Mission Board.
Let’s pray today that God would continue to open doors and hearts in Central Asia as the Oakes faithfully share the gospel.
