John Heading serves as the state director of Ohio Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, coordinating deployment teams and helping the ministry become more effective in serving those in crisis. As an SBC-endorsed chaplain, John not only supports his team members spiritually but also engages with local residents, assessing their emotional needs and looking for opportunities to share the gospel.
John says the most rewarding part is seeing people respond—not just to the physical help they receive, but to the hope of Christ. “Recently, Amy and her family lost everything in a flood,” he recalls. “By the end of the day, she gave her life to Christ. Her next request was to learn how to follow Him—and for her husband to be saved.”
Through the Cooperative Program, our church helps provide practical and spiritual aid through Disaster Relief teams across North America.
Pray John will be sensitive to the spiritual needs of people in crisis, not just to meet their physical needs.
