It started with a simple request: “Will you take a selfie with me?” Ami often saw the IMB missionary walking past her home in a South Asian slum. Seeing a foreigner was rare, and her daughters encouraged her to ask for a photo.
The missionary agreed—but first, Ami invited her in for chai. Their conversation quickly turned to God. Ami shared her curiosity about the New Testament. The missionary pulled one from her bag and gave it to her.
They never got around to the selfie.
Ami read the entire New Testament in a week. It answered many questions, but fear of cultural and family backlash held her back. After years of studying Scripture and meeting with believers, she publicly professed her faith through baptism.
Through the Cooperative Program, Southern Baptists provide a faithful gospel presence in places like Ami’s community.
