WHEREAS, Alcohol is the number one killer of young people from age eighteen to twenty-one, and
WHEREAS, Over 25,000 people die each year on the nation’s highways as a direct cause of drinking drivers, and
WHEREAS, Alcoholics number approximately twelve million in the United States, with enormous human cost and an annual loss of approximately $25 billion dollars to our nation’s economy, and
WHEREAS, The increasing number of problem drinks among young people and females is special cause for serious alarm,
Therefore be it RESOLVED, that Southern Baptists continue to adhere to and promote vigorously and positively their commitment to abstinence from alcohol, and
Be it further RESOLVED, that Southern Baptists renew their commitment to minister compassionately to those who develop drinking problems and to relate to their families in redemptive ways.
