Social Service Commission Recommendation Concerning

We recommend (1) That the Convention express its appreciation of the work being done by the National Temperance and Prohibition Council; and endorse its legislative and educational program, both state and federal, looking toward the curtailment and eventual eradication of the liquor traffic and its attendant social evils (see the Commission Report).

(2) That we urge the Baptists in the several states to co-operate with and support heartily the temperance organizations (or organization) in each state which are rendering worthy service in the fight against alcoholism and the liquor traffic.

(3) That we urge upon our pastors the importance of providing for our young people a program of temperance education, the effects of alcohol upon body, mind and soul; that in the pulpit and in study classes effort be made to fortify our people against the drinking customs of our day and the personal and social immoralities that we inevitably associated with them; and that total abstinence pledges be renewed, especially among young Christians, in the Sunday school and other organizations in the churches.
