Resolution On Mccowen Bill

WHEREAS, The McCowen Bill (H. R. 2953) is now pending in the United States House of Representatives, which bill denies the use of Federal Funds for any direct aid to sectarian schools, but leaves the door open for indirect aid out of Federal funds in those states which have constitutions allowing the use of state tax funds for bus transportation and free textbooks for sectarian schools, and

WHEREAS, The financial advantages of the McCowen Bill would possibly encourage other states to yield to pressure groups which are interested in securing tax money for even further sectarian purposes,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, That we urge that this bill be amended in such a manner as to prohibit the use of Federal funds, either directly or indirectly, for the aid of any private, sectarian, or parochial schools.
