Resolution On Hunger And Poverty

WHEREAS, The Bible speaks powerfully about the responsibility of God’s people to care for poor and hungry people, and Jesus by His words and deeds met the needs of those about Him; and

WHEREAS, Hunger and poverty continue to be a crisis in every area of our world.

Therefore, be it RESOLVED, That we, the messengers of the Southern Baptist Convention meeting in St. Louis, Missouri, June 16-18, 1987, with hearts of love and compassion for fellow human beings, direct our resources through the Foreign Mission Board, Home Mission Board, state conventions, local Baptist associations, and individual churches to meet the escalating need for food, clothing, shelter, and health care of the poor and hungry.

Be it finally RESOLVED, That we urge all Southern Baptist churches to avail themselves of the materials available through the Christian Life Commission concerning World Hunger Day, cooperate with other public channels in response to world hunger, and observe World Hunger Day in 1987.
