Resolution On Christian Responsibility Toward The Disadvantaged

WHEREAS, Scripture clearly emphasizes that Christians are to be concerned about the poor and less fortunate, and

WHEREAS, Many of the attempts to meet the needs of the disadvantaged are through federal and state welfare programs, and

WHEREAS, In spite of some regrettable abuses, these programs do in fact provide life-saving help to many who are too old, too sick, too young, or too disabled to care for themselves.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That we as Christians acknowledge our responsibility for helping those who are genuinely unable to supply their basic needs, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That we will seek to understand and support national and state assistance programs that help those in genuine need, while insisting that vigilance be maintained to avoid misuse of the programs.
