Resolution Concerning Selective Service Legislation


WHEREAS, The Southern Baptist Convention meeting in Houston, Texas, in May, 1953, petitioned the Congress of the United States to amend Article 1622.43 section 16 of selective service regulation so as to include full-time, vocational lay religious workers, or students preparing for such service, under the 4-D classification, and

WHEREAS, Congressman Wingate Lucas of Fort Worth, Texas, introduced in the 83rd Congress, 2nd session, on March 2, 1954, House Resolution 8167 which will accomplish this purpose,

Therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Convention go on record as endorsing Congressman Lucas’ bill and so inform him and Selective Service Headquarters.
