On Twenty-five Years Of The Conservative Resurgence


WHEREAS, The gathering of this 147th annual session of the Southern Baptist Convention marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the conservative resurgence within the Southern Baptist Convention; and

WHEREAS, Southern Baptists owe a great debt of thanks to those who have led our beloved Southern Baptist Convention back to its original foundations, rooted in and committed to Jesus Christ and to the Scriptures as the inspired and inerrant Word of God, “the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried” (The Baptist Faith and Message, Article I); and

WHEREAS, This renewed commitment has strengthened our churches and entities and reenergized the mission of the Southern Baptist Convention to bring the Gospel to the uttermost parts of the earth; and

WHEREAS, Many faithful men and women made sacrifices to lead the conservative resurgence; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the messengers to the Southern Baptist Convention meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana, June 15-16, 2004, ascribe glory, praise, and honor to God for all He has done; and be it finally

RESOLVED, That we express our appreciation to those who have courageously led us back to our historic biblical moorings and extend our appreciation to those elected and employed leaders who now effectively maintain a Christ-centered emphasis in life and work within the Southern Baptist Convention.
