WHEREAS, Legislation has been offered in our National Congress proposing a legalized National Lottery; and
WHEREAS, This proposed legislation seeks to secure dignity and acceptance by offering the income to the support of charity, and
WHEREAS, The principles upon which lotteries stand, the policies by which they are conducted, the motives which they stimulate and the agencies which they utilize are all, individually and severally, subversive of character and corruptive of conduct and destructive of all that is highest and finest,
Therefore, be it RESOLVED, By the Southern Baptist Convention that we oppose the enactment of this legislation and that we call upon all our people to make this opposition vocal and effective.
RESOLVED, That the Social Service Commission be designated as the agency to bring our position to the attention of members of the Congress.
