WHEREAS, The nation mourns the loss of President Ronald Wilson Reagan, who passed away on June 5, 2004; and
WHEREAS, He was known as a man of prayer and strong faith in God; and
WHEREAS, He represented and exemplified the hallmarks of a Christian leader; and
WHEREAS, He served as President of our country for eight years; and
WHEREAS, He contributed great strength and leadership to the United States of America, militarily and economically; and
WHEREAS, His leadership in the world brought the end of the Cold War, resulting in the liberation of millions of people from the stranglehold of atheistic communism; and
WHEREAS, He gave us a legacy of optimism and hope; and
WHEREAS, He held strong belief in the Bible and its answers to life’s problems, having proclaimed 1983 as the Year of the Bible; and
WHEREAS, He held the highest respect for all human life and put the issue of the sanctity of human life on the nation’s agenda; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the messengers to the Southern Baptist Convention meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana, June 15-16, 2004, express our profound respect and appreciation for the contribution that his life and Presidency has made to the United States of America, to the world, and to each of our individual freedoms; and be it further
RESOLVED, That we commit to pray for Nancy Reagan and the entire Reagan family during this difficult time; and be it finally
RESOLVED, That we pledge to perpetuate the positive values so faithfully exemplified by the life of President Ronald Wilson Reagan.
