  • The Call

In 2004 Bellevue’s Pastor Search Committee contacted Steve Gaines, asking him to pray about the possibility of becoming the next Pastor of Bellevue. As he and Donna prayed, they did not yet feel the Lord was calling them to leave their ministry in Gardendale, Alabama. However, in May 2005, several months after the Search Committee had contacted Bro. Steve, he and Donna were in town to see their son, Grant, graduate from Union University.

Bro. Steve found a secluded place on Bellevue’s campus for a time of prayer, and the Lord began moving in his heart about the possibility of a new step in ministry. God revealed through His Word what the Gaines felt in their hearts—God was calling them to Bellevue. As they prayed and waited for God to move, Bellevue’s Pastor Search Committee contacted Bro. Steve a second time.

In September 2005, Pastor Steve Gaines began his ministry in Memphis. Since arriving at Bellevue, Bro. Steve has continued the Bellevue tradition of finding tangible ways to show Christ’s love to Memphis and has begun several initiatives to bring unity to our city and seek revival.

    Bellevue Loves Memphis Workdays

In 2007 Bellevue began holding quarterly workdays to minister to the city of Memphis. Since its inception, more than 30,000 Bellevue Loves Memphis volunteers—later combined with a citywide initiative called Jesus Loves Memphis—have reached out to the city of Memphis, completing more than 900 service projects.

    Christian Mobile Dental Clinic

In 2009 the Christian Mobile Dental Clinic (CMDC) opened its doors to answer a deep need for those in the community who could not afford dental care. Traveling throughout the city, the CMDC has:

    • Cared for more than 13,000 patient exams.
    • Shared more than 9,000 Gospel presentations.
    • Seen more than 1,400 professions of faith.
    • Provided over $3.1 million in free dental care.

    Ministry Expansion

Desiring to be a catalyst for spiritual awakening throughout Memphis, Pastor Steve Gaines has led Bellevue to open additional campuses in strategic areas of the city.

Bellevue has been actively involved in both national and international church planting. Over the last 10 years, Bellevue has planted eight churches in the United States and 12 international churches.

    Prayer Ministry

Since Bro. Steve’s first sermon at Bellevue, prayer and revival have been at his heart as he leads believers toward intimacy with Jesus and a desire to “Pray Like It Matters.” Under his leadership, Bellevue’s Prayer Ministry has been expanded to include a centrally located Prayer Room, Sunday evening prayer services, and renewed commitments to prayer by Bellevue’s members.

    “Awake” Worship Services

Seeking the welfare of the city and unity among believers throughout Memphis, Pastor Steve Gaines led Bellevue to begin holding “Awake” Worship Services in which pastors and their congregations from sister churches in Memphis come together in worship.
