Tower Grove Baptist Church in St. Louis, Missouri is prayerfully seeking a Senior Pastor who will oversee the ministries of the church and its associated school, Tower Grove Christian Academy.

Nestled between the Missouri Botanical Garden and Tower Grove Park, Tower Grove Church is committed to changing St Louis city and the world through the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. We are committed to “the city.” Our ministers live here in St Louis city so we can be agents of positive change. We reach every strata of the community, encompass all generations, and welcome all nations. We have an average combined Sunday morning attendance of 200-250. Regularly scheduled services include a traditional service at 8:00 Sunday, a contemporary service at 10:15 Sunday, multiple non-English services at 10:15 Sunday, Prayer Meeting at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, and youth at 6 p.m. Wednesday. We also offer a full range of ministry services including Sunday School for all ages, women’s discipleship group, WMU, music ministry and many others.
Our church’s largest mission field is our associated school, Tower Grove Christian Academy. We currently have a preschool serving ages 6 months – pre-K; an elementary school for grades K-5 and a middle school for grades 6-8. Our high school is currently transitioning to serve a larger church population throughout the city and will continue to be located in our building for the foreseeable future.
The Senior Pastor is the spiritual leader of the church. As the shepherd of the church, he is to oversee the life and direction of the church. He will offer pastoral leadership to the congregation and ministry areas of the church. The Senior Pastor will have a firm grasp on the purpose, values and strategies of the church and the ability to align the different ministries and leaders with its mission. The Senior Pastor will ensure that the systems, practices, and policies of the church (as presented in the constitution) responsibly and effectively support its ministry activities. He is responsible to the Lord and the church to primarily proclaim the gospel and teach the Bible. Under the Holy Spirit’s leadership, he is to provide strategic leadership and planning for the local church. He is also to provide leadership in all areas and administer the paid and volunteer staff.
A. Preaching and teaching – the Senior Pastor will be the primary preacher for worship services. The Pastor also will provide leadership in planning and executing any Religious Education programs and other programs in discipleship and ministry training.
B. Strategic leadership and planning: The Senior Pastor is responsible for strategic planning and staff coordination in the execution of the church’s purpose. The Senior Pastor will define strategic goals and vision as a key leader among staff and deacons and implement by:
a. Meeting with the deacons and leadership to clarify and execute goals and objectives
b. Monitoring the spiritual pulse of the congregation through review and accountability
c. Ensuring future staffing, facilities and programs are effectively aligned to meet strategic goals
C. Evangelism: The Senior Pastor provides leadership for the church’s evangelism efforts, including engaging in personal witnessing, seeking the salvation of the lost, and overseeing leaders of the church outreach ministries.
D. Pastoral care: The Senior Pastor provides leadership for the church’s pastoral care ministries, including counseling, hospital and home visits to the sick and bereaved, ensuring that a ministry staff member is available to perform marriages and conduct funerals, etc.
E. Staff supervision and development: The Senior Pastor supervises the subset of staff and lay volunteers that directly report to him, and leads, evaluates, and mentors these staff and ministry volunteers in their respective areas of ministry by:
a. Overseeing staff/ministry training and development
b. Maintaining efficient and effective lines of communication between the staff and deacons as well as ministry leaders.
F. Leadership and administration: The Senior Pastor provides leadership and oversees and executes the administration of the church, school, and preschool through appropriate ministry leadership teams, and ensures the completion of ministry, business, facility, and logistical support functions through those teams. He must:
a. Provide high-level leadership to the staff, ministries, organizations, deacons, and committees of the church;
b. Supervise the Building and Custodial Staff, and the Office Staff;
c. Oversee development of and adherence to church policies and procedures as stated in the constitution;
d. Serve as President and Chief Executive Officer of the church, the school, the preschool and all church-related programs and ministries;
e. Serve as moderator of all church business meetings;
f. Serve as staff coordinator of certain committees as determined by church policy and constitution.
G. Other duties as necessary.

Qualified candidates will have:
• 10+ years experience with outreach-focused ministry in a multicultural, city environment
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher (advanced degree and seminary degree preferred but not required)
• Experience in church planning, strategy and financial oversight
• Substantive preaching experience – can articulate the gospel of Jesus Christ
• Committed to a robust church-wide Bible study and discipleship program
• Proven leadership managing teams of paid and unpaid staff
• Evangelism focus and heart for missions
