Job Description for Full-time Pastor at Ankeny Cornerstone Baptist Church

Cornerstone Constitution: The pastor is and shall be recognized as the Under-shepherd of Christ, providing leadership to the church in both its spiritual ministries and its material affairs. His life should conform to the Biblical guidelines for Overseers. The powers, duties, and prerogatives that are inherent in the office of the pastor are to be exercised under the Lordship of Christ, the leadership of the Holy Spirit, and in accordance with Biblical principles. Title: Full-time Pastor
Ministry Purpose: To proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, to teach the scriptures, to provide pastoral care and counseling, to assist the deacons in the life and direction of the church, to provide spiritual and administrative leadership in all areas of church life, to supervise church staff and growth groups, and to conduct the ordinances and functions of worship.
Serving Relationships: The pastor serves under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the Church Body. He receives counsel from, assists, and provides regular reports on ministry accomplishments and activities to the Deacons who serve the congregation. He serves as a non-voting member of the Deacons and Stewardship Committee.
Primary Responsibilities:
Spiritual Leadership and Worship
• Plans and conducts worship services, developing sermons, coordinating with music leadership, and leading the observance of ordinances
• Leads and demonstrates effective ways to witness and win the lost to salvation through Christ
• Works with Deacons and other leadership to carry out the mission and purpose of the church
• Oversees, along with Deacons, all church discipline matters and the management of conflict issues in the church
Pastoral Care
• Visits and ministers to members, regular attendees, and prospective members in homes, nursing care facilities, and hospitals
• Conducts personal, spiritual, pre-marital, and grief counseling
• Conducts funeral services and performs wedding ceremonies in accordance with the church constitution
• Demonstrates and fosters a church atmosphere of caring for each other
Education and Outreach
• Conducts staff development and training for Sunday School and Growth Groups
• Coordinates missions projects and commitments
• Oversees hospitality duties

Administration and Facilities
• Adheres to the church constitution
• Serves as moderator of church staff, supervising and evaluating the tasks assigned to each
• Serves as chairman of the Church Leadership Team (Church Council) in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating the total church program.
• Recommends to and advises committees and teams as a non-voting member
• Cooperates with associational, state, and denominational leaders
Other Expectations
• Maintains regular office hours and is available and accessible to congregation
• Communicates with the congregation through announcements using church email, bulletins, and worship services
• Maintains a vital personal relationship with the Lord through daily Bible study and prayer
• Maintains Biblical priorities and behavior in his personal life
• Attends social gatherings and special events in the church


• Prefer ordained Southern Baptist minister with Masters in Divinity
• Prefer at least 2 years of ministry experience
• Skilled in public speaking and interpersonal communication
