Organized March 9, 1864, First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge, Missouri, has ministered to our greater community for 155 years. Our church property adjoins the campus of the Oak Ridge R-6 Public School District which is the heart of our rural community that surrounds the Village of Oak Ridge that has a current population of 243. Average attendance in Sunday morning worship for the first six months of 2019 was 80. We currently offer a full age-range of Sunday School classes, a Sunday morning worship service, a Sunday evening worship service, a Wednesday evening prayer service and adult Bible study as well as weekly activities for children and youth and two weekly ministries to our local junior high and senior high students many of whom come from unchurched families. Sunday morning worship is led by our associate pastor along with a team of volunteers who offer a Gospel-centered service with modern and traditional songs. Our Sunday evening Engage service is an extension of our Sunday morning service with deeper pastoral teaching on the morning sermon complemented by questions of clarification from the congregation and a concluding challenge of application of the teaching of the day in the week ahead. Currently, we have approximately 48 members and attendees actively involved in Legacy Groups which we define as one-on-three disciple groups following a pastor-designed study that meet bi-weekly at various locations including at church, in homes or in public spaces. In addition to our full-time lead pastor, we have a part-time associate pastor and are currently seeking to build a team of pastors both staff and non-staff. Free of debt, our proposed 2020 budget is approximately $148,500.00. We are thankful to God our giving has exceeded our budgeted need for ministry for the past three years. Our congregation is a mixture of older members and younger families with more under age 50 than above and has a broad range of levels of education and income in reflection of our greater community. We currently have three mission partners: one, the Baptist collegiate ministry on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau; two, a recent church plant in Clarksville, TN; three, a new church plant in Calgary, Canada, and we are actively engaged with all three through both online interaction and team visits to all three sites. Our recently adopted Mission Statement is: We scatter to plant witness, gather to cultivate fruitful disciples, and send to multiple Gospel-centered churches. As a church, we are actively involved in the Cape Girardeau Baptist Association, and we preach, teach and minister in full cooperation with the Missouri Baptist Convention as well as with the Southern Baptist Convention. Our church holds to the doctrinal statement of The Baptist Faith and Message as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention.
Church Purpose and Values
As stated in our church constitution, “Having been established in 1864, we endeavor to continue in the steps of the charter members of this church in following our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Being Gospel-Centered – The Gospel is the complete story of Scripture, the message of salvation for all, and the framework for growing in and living out our faith. The realities of our sinfulness, God’s holy love, and Jesus’ work on the cross shape everything we do.
Submitting to God’s Word – We cherish the Bible as God’s authoritative Word to us. We affirm and follow all Scripture as our final authority. Biblical preaching and teaching are foundational to the life of our community.
Gathering for Worship – As a community of worshippers, the weekly gathering of our church family is vital for our growth in Jesus. We gather to worship God and to encourage one another through remembering and realigning with the Gospel.
Sharing Life Together – New Testament fellowship is all about sharing our lives with one another: our burdens, our joys, our needs, our resources and much more. As family with one another, we show hospitality, vulnerability, and sacrifice toward one another, and we welcome others into our family.
Serving Sacrificially – As Jesus came not to be served but to serve, we are called to serve one another and our community. We help one another discover and use our gifts.
Pursuing God Personally – Loving God is the first great commandment, and every individual needs a growing relationship with God that is characterized by reliance on Him through prayer, Bible study and other spiritual disciplines.
Multiplying Whole Disciples – Jesus’ final words gave a clear mission to His Church: make disciples. As missionaries, we are called to reach the lost, teach and equip the followers of Jesus toward maturity, and send them to engage the world with the Gospel.
Caring for the Outsider – Loving our neighbor is the second great commandment, and we are called to do this with justice, mercy, and humility. We pursue and care for those on the outskirts of our community and society with the love of Jesus through prayer, relationship, advocacy, and personal sacrifice.

Title: Lead Pastor
Biblical References: Acts 6:4, Ephesians 4:11-16, 1 Timothy 3:1-7, 2 Timothy 4:1-5, Titus 1:1-9, 1 Peter 5:1-4
Ministry Role: The lead pastor is called to shepherd the church as an example of Christlikeness in submission to Him as the chief shepherd. He will fulfill this calling by knowing, feeding, leading, and protecting them through the ministry of the Word and prayer in order to accomplish the church’s mission for the glory of God.
Supervisor: Personnel & Finance Team
Primary Functions: His specific shepherding responsibilities include the following areas of oversight:
Personal Spiritual Formation: Attending to the development of his personal worship, ministry, and mission.
Worship: Attending to the development of the Church’s individual and corporate worship of God in all spheres of life.
Ministry: Attending to the development of the Church’s comprehension, experience, and participation in biblical fellowship.
Mission: Attending to the development of the Church’s mission to the world through evangelism and social action.
Administration: Attending to the development of the Church’s structures, policies, and procedures.
Performance Evaluations (as stated in Church Personnel & Finance Handbook)
Supervisors and employees are strongly encouraged to discuss job performance and goals on an informal, day-to-day basis. Personnel and Finance Committee will conduct formal performance evaluations for support staff at the end of the first three (3) months in any new position and at the end of a pastor’s first six (6) months. Additional formal annual performance evaluations are conducted to provide both supervisors and employees the opportunity to discuss job tasks and goals, to encourage and recognize strengths, to identify and agree to improve weaknesses and to discuss positive, purposeful approaches for accomplishing goals.
Proposed Salary and Benefits
Our proposed salary begins at $45,000.00 commensurate with education and relevant experience. Our church provides a recently updated and renovated parsonage on church property adjacent to our worship and education facilities. While the church pays the cost of utilities for the pastor’s water, sewer and trash service, all other utilities and benefits are at the pastor’s expense.
