Our congregation in Lone Pine, California is in search of a new pastor. Lone Pine is a small town of approximately 2,000 people located about 200 miles north of Los Angeles. This is a bi-vocational (part-time) pastor position. Our church currently has 29 members, with between 40-60 people attending a typical Sunday morning service.
The church expects and understands that as Servant-Leader the pastor has the primary responsibilities to equip the church for ministry as God leads him, and to administer a program of 3 weekly meetings for worship, prayer and discipleship.
The pastor is the primary prophet for the Sunday morning service. To fulfill these responsibilities it will be necessary for the pastor to devote sufficient time for prayer and study in the preparation of messages, as well as for personal spiritual growth and development.
Our pastor search committee has prayerfully studied the Scriptures to look for Biblical guidance regarding requirements for our new pastor. As a result, we don't have any criteria in mind regarding age, previous pastoral experience, etc. Instead, we are committed to finding the pastor that the Lord wants to send us. Our requirements are in accordance with Titus and 1 Timothy, relating strongly to the character of a new pastor and including criteria such as "sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money."
Our church’s bylaws and constitution as well as our covenants also state that the pastor will be:
o A mature, baptized believer and an active member of his current church
o Committed to helping others grow in knowledge of and obedience to the Triune God- discipling others is one-third of the Great Commission
o In agreement with and willing to uphold the church covenants, bylaws and constitution
o Leading the church in his own style as the Lord directs.
