SBC President's Page - Welcome

Dr. Frank S. Page
President of the Southern Baptist Convention 2006

Introductory words from Dr. Frank Page:

In this website, I would like to thank Southern Baptists for re-electing me as President of the Southern Baptist Convention.  I have had an awesome opportunity over the last year visiting across our country and world.  I have attempted to be an encouragement to our people.  I have attempted to share Christ at every opportunity.  I have attempted to pull together various groups toward a common recognition that the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ should be our unifying factor.  I continue to call upon all Southern Baptists to deal with issues in a Christlike spirit.  I encourage groups to honestly and openly dialogue and debate important matters.  Again, however, I call on all Southern Baptists to recognize that that which calls us together in unity is far more important than our differences.  During this past year, I have been responsible for appointing several committees.  On those committees, I included people of various size churches, people of every conceivable age.  I appointed Calvinists and non Calvinists.  I appointed, most of all, people who have not been involved in the past.  I intentionally reached out to young pastors and included some of the youngest pastors ever involved in SBC appointments.  I am not perfect.  I have made mistakes.  However, due to the prayers of God’s people, I have experienced blessings beyond words.

I ask that we move ahead in 2007-2008 in a common calling to do more than we’ve ever done for the Lord.  Most of all, I call upon the Southern Baptist Convention to pray diligently and earnestly for a reviving touch from our Lord.  Across the nation I have spoken about the three “R’s.”  I have thanked God for the push for doctrinal rightness.  I thank God for the conservative resurgence which has brought us to this point.  However, we must, with equal passion, attack the issues of relevancy and revival.  If we do not have God’s reviving hand upon us, we will move into a precipitous decline from which we will never recover.  If we do not seek a relevance to touch our 21st century culture, then our churches will be orthodox and right in their doctrinal stance, but empty.  The younger generations are looking for relevance, authenticity, and relationships.  We must be sensitive to those calls.  We will never be a convention which compromises the Word of God in message nor methodology.  However, let us ask God to breathe His Spirit upon us that we might reach all generations for Christ.

I also want to say a word of thanks to the wonderful people across this Convention which have shown me that they are truly desirous of God’s work in their life.  I have often stated that I am cautiously optimistic about the future of our Convention.  My optimism continues to grow!  I see God working in many churches, conventions, and associations.  It truly is all about Him!  Let us find ways to increasingly glorify His name.

May God bless you as you read this website.  I pray that the Spirit of the Lord will continue to work in your heart as well as mine.

In Christ,
Frank S. Page
